Style Crush: Joanna Hillman

Joanna Hillman is one of the protagonists of the street-style scene in New York and through the many pictures and interviews of her that have been circulating online the past year, I came to really admire and love both her style and her incredible work as the Senior Fashion Market Editor of Harper’s Bazzar US.

Tips to gather from Joanna’s style? Mix classic, investment pieces, with more edgy, statement- making ones. Whether it’s a classic blazer and sequined pants, a plain black skirt with a printed jacket or just a pair of jeans with an eye-grabbing fur coat, this lady definitely knows how to put an outfit together.

It goes without saying that starting today I will be following her sartorial choices at New York Fashion Week and bring them right here to you.

Erickson Beamon X Swarovski Crystallized

It’s the time of the year when fashionistas around the world celebrate the new summer collections and the beginning of Fashion Week season. This year however the weather is trying its best to spoil it for us. In my case I’m dreaming of Louis Vuitton’s candy coloured Spring collection, Prada’s romantic midi skirts in the softest pastel colours and those stunning violets and pinks at Philip Lim, yet at the moment I’m in rain boots, a thick jumper and fur hat.

The solution? Insert bright and colourful accessories to your outfits! The latest and hottest accessories on the fashion radar have been the result of a collaboration between Swarovski Crystallized and Erickson Beamon: they are fun, on trend of course (neon is the new black this season) and will brighten up your winter outfits and your moods. Also for the ladies attending Fashion Week,  these are guaranteed showstoppers ;)

Vogue Editor In Chief Turned Rockstar!

You might be wondering what I’m talking about on the title of the post but I think the above video will explain it all. Editor in chief of French Vogue, Emanuelle Alt, becomes the lead singer of her very own Vogue band, singing ‘wake me up before you go’ in order to promote and of course celebrate the launch of the magazine’s brand new website!

This video put a huge smile on my face, simply because it breaks all the stereotypes of fashion people as uptight, snobby, taking everything too seriously etc. etc. This is the woman in one of the most prestigious and envied positions, within the fashion world, yet she casually puts on a pair of white jeans and a Vogue t-shirt, sings and dances, without any sign of self-consciousness, proving that fashion might be a lot of things but above all it’s fun!

As for the website, it doesn’t come a surprise that it looks just perfect: chic yet minimalistic and easy to follow, just like the spirit of French fashion! What was interesting to notice however was the fact that the layout of the new vogue.fr resembles a blog’s layout a lot more than it did before. Then again that shouldn’t come as a surprise either, being in Vogue means embracing the spirit of the times and for the moment this means embracing the digital world. Emanuelle Alt shows us that noone understands this more than the Vogue team!

In With The New

As you might have noticed, a few changes have been made to lebonchic.com. Blogging has been so much fun, I’ve loved sharing my little obsessions and my views on everything going on in the fashion world with you and getting positive feedback has meant the world to me. I thought that it might be time to step it up however, so with the help of the amazing and very talented fashion illustrator Sara Japanwalla we have a brand new logo and I also added categories to my posts: in addition to the usual posts about trends, fashion news and runway reviews, expect to see more of my personal pictures, my first venture into streetstyle photography is also coming up and a lot more.

Talking of everything new, I thought I would leave you with some of the pictures of the fresh, new Spring editorials, that have been lying around my desktop! The new season is colourful, sparkly and ultra-feminine. From the Prada floral bodysuits to the Dolce Gabbana jeweled cropped tops, everything is looking exciting to say the least. So let’s hope this is the most stylish and successful season yet both for Le Bon Chic and our closets ;)

A Story that will make you "Jalouse"

Une Fille Comme Les Autres from Jalouse blog on Vimeo.

An utterly appealing story from the editors of Jalouse magazine, about a girl, who is intellectual, but also fun and outgoing, loves fashion and dressing up, in fact changing outfits several times a day is normal in her world; yet she manages to look like she just rolled out of bed. In other words she is the ultimate Parisian, who champions the casual chic way of dressing and is simply too cool to show that she put effort into looking good! Should we be following her league?

Vogue Italia for QVC?!

This was a video released by Vogue Italy and it was anything but something we would expect or even completely comprehend.

QVC is a shopping channel, one of those that we tend to associate with grandmothers sitting in front of the TV and watching the selling of home equipment and what not for hours. Of course we cannot ignore the fact that the past few years the profile of this specific channel has been drastically raised, with the involvement of people such as Rachel Zoe or Isaac Misrahi, who have repeatedly sold capsule collections live for QVC.

Nevertheless it’s still very strange to say the least, seeing the latest runway collections coming down a hypothetical IVC runway! Everything, from Prada jewels, the Gucci fringed dresses, the coveted YSL shoes and Cavalli gowns to name a few, is modeled on IVC (which would be the QVC parody of course)!

What comes to my mind is that Vogue is making a parody of fashion becoming a lot more accessible through digital media and ironically suggesting that what is next would be for couture to be available to purchase on what used to be our grandmother’s shopping channel! Then again who knows what could have gone through Franca Sozanni’s creative mind?

What is your take on this?

Carven, Celine & Givenchy Pre-Fall 2012! The best Paris has to offer!

How do Parisian women manage to master the effortless chic dressing? The answer is simple: because of French labels like Carven, which fully embrace this effortlessly elegant way of dressing as their philosophy when designing clothes! The result? Well you will not find any sparkly evening dresses, or anything that is explicitly sexy in this collection. What you will find however is sophisticated, structured coats, the best knitwear you could ever ask for and daring pops of colour that in some incomprehensible way (something only a French label could achieve) also manage to be subtle. So if you are looking to follow the Coco Chanel philosophy, that simplicity is elegance, look to Carven to help you achieve just that; only with a fresher, younger twist!
I think it’s established by now, that if you like fashion, you will love Celine. In her pre-fall 2012/12 for the house, Phoebe Philo reminds us why every self-respecting fashionista is in fact so obsessed with everything Celine! The fur, the oversized jackets, the head to toe prints, the leather accents, what’s not to love about this? And I don’t even have enough words to express how much I’m loving that white maxi from the first image, which I would say, captures exactly what makes us so crazy about the brand: its so extremely simple and understated (you’d think anyone could cut a piece of white material and make that) yet looks incredible on, because there is so much detail put in creating this seemingly simple structure! Vive Celine and Phoebe Philo ;)

Another pre-collection that took my breath away would have to be Givenchy! First of all the concept of shooting the lookbook on the streets clearly shows how the house is aware and supportive of the influence of the digital media and particularly of street-style blogs, which is worth applause. Secondly, Ricardo Tisci truly deserves our applause for the amount of creativity he has put into the clothes: the prints used here are reminiscent of the great Givenchy classics, while the clean, neat structure of the clothes, like at Celine, again goes to prove that true elegance is found within simplicity, something which is at the core of Parisian fashion.
And of course I can’t not talk about the shoes; those incredible boots seen here on every look, are already creating buzz and they are without a doubt, soon to be seen all over editorials and front rows!
